The New York Times' Marc Stein reported Thursday that the NBA is opening an investigation into the rumored deal that would have sent Bogdan Bogdanovic to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for a package that included shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo.

SIGN UP HERE The deal, which broke Monday evening, was a complex trade that would involve the Kings signing Bogdanovic and then trading him to the Bucks along with Justin James for DiVincenzo, Ersan Ilyasova and D.J. White.
The main issue is that free agency doesn’t officially start until Friday at 3 p.m. PT. This means that Bogdanovic and his group were not allowed to negotiate a contract with the Bucks until later in the week.

This situation might not be as cut and dry as it seems. The NBA only announced that they were opening up a trade window last week and the Nov. 20 free agency period slightly before that.

Trades like this can come together quickly, but they are often complex and require conversations long before anything is sent into the league office.
While the Kings are waiting for all of this to work itself out, NBC Sports California has confirmed through a league source that the Kings extended a $10.66 million qualifying offer to Bogdanovic on Thursday, making him a restricted free agent when free agency opens Friday.
This will likely end any trade talks between the Kings and Bucks for now. Bogdanovic is set to hit the free-agent market and the Kings will have an opportunity to sign the 28-year-old wing to a new contract, work out a sign-and-trade with him and allow him to move on to another team, match any offer sheet he is given or allow him to leave without compensation.
