Report: Kings high on Murray amid trade talks for No. 4 pick

With the 2022 NBA Draft right around the corner, all eyes in Sacramento -- and around the league -- are on the Kings and their No. 4 pick.

Rumors about who the Kings will select fourth overall have swirled for weeks, but recent reports indicate they could take Iowa forward Keegan Murray in the first round if the team doesn’t trade away the pick.

Both Murray and Purdue guard Jaden Ivey are expected to be available still at No. 4, and NBA teams are circling Sacramento in hopes for a trade to move up in the draft for the prospects.

Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer reported that trade interest has come from the Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs, who are targeting Murray, while the New York Knicks and Washington Wizards are hoping to move up and pick Ivey.

SNY NBA insider Ian Begley reported on Tuesday that the Knicks have discussed offering the Kings multiple first-round draft picks and a young player for the No. 4 pick.

With so many potential trade partners, it’s clear that the Kings’ pick is a hot commodity and can draw a lucrative package.

But if they do opt to remain at No. 4, it’s also apparent that Sacramento is extremely high on Murray, who recently worked out for the team. Fischer and SI.com both reported that the teams picking behind the Kings seem to believe the young forward will be their pick.

The Kings are so interested in Murray, in fact, that the organization arranged for him to have dinner with Sacramento stars De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported, citing sources.

And the feeling appears to be mutual.

During Draft Media Day, Murray told reporters that he would want to be a part of the Kings’ culture "and be a part of that group that can turn that franchise around” (h/t Sactown Royalty).

He also gave a glowing review of the current core in Sacramento and believes he would fit in well.

While Ivey hasn’t seemed too fond of the idea that he could be taken at No. 4 by the Kings, Murray appears to be excited about an opportunity to help the team return to the NBA playoffs for the first time in 16 seasons.
