Kings rookie Murray named 2022-23 NBA Rising Star

Kings rookie Keegan Murray will head to Salt Lake City for All-Star Weekend in February as a 2023 NBA Rising Star.

Murray was one of 28 rookies, second-year players and G League prospects announced as invitees to the league's annual showcase of its top young talent on Monday.

Murray, the No. 4 overall pick of the 2022 NBA Draft, is averaging 12.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting 42.2 percent from 3-point range this season.

Murray was named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for his efforts in December, and he is the favorite to win the honor again in January after registering 14.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and a 49.5 percent 3-point clip in 15 games this month.

The rookie didn't register a single double-double over his first 40 games but has logged three games of at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in his last seven outings.

The NBA Rising Stars challenge, scheduled to take place Feb. 17 at Vivint Arena, two days before the All-Star Game, features a three-game mini-tournament among four teams. The 21 rookies and second-year players will be drafted onto three seven-player teams, while the seven G League invites will make up the fourth squad.

The teams will be selected by NBA legends serving as coaches for the event: Pau Gasol, Joakim Noah and Deron Williams. Jason Terry will coach the G League team.
