Kings guard Huerter expects to return Friday vs. Suns

It appears the Kings will have Red Velvet back in the rotation Friday night.

Sacramento guard Kevin Huerter told reporters after shootaround Friday that he expects to play against the Phoenix Suns at Golden 1 Center.

He officially is listed as questionable on the Kings’ injury report with a right popliteus strain.

Huerter sustained the injury in the first quarter of Sacramento’s 101-96 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday. He exited that game and missed the Kings’ next three contests.

Trade deadline acquisition Kessler Edwards started those three tilts in Huerter’s place and averaged 7.7 points and 2.0 rebounds in 19.3 minutes per game while shooting 66.7 percent from the field.

“To be honest, if this was a playoff series I would’ve been playing a couple games ago,” Huerter told Sactown Sports' Carmichael Dave and Jason Ross on Friday morning. “It’s not. … I don’t need to be playing through pain. Obviously, don’t want to make this thing worse.”

Huerter and the Kings are looking to even the season series against the Suns. Phoenix took the first two matchups, but Sacramento won 128-119 at Footprint Center on March 11 when seven different Kings players scored in double figures.

The game tips off at 7 p.m. PT. Tune in to NBC Sports California at 6:30 p.m. for “Kings Pregame Live.”
