76ers' Morey says there are Simmons-Kings trades that work

With three weeks until the Feb. 10 NBA trade deadline, the struggling Kings are a popular team in the rumor mill, this week especially.

The Kings, who dropped to 18-29 with a crushing 133-131 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night, have been connected to Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons for months, and with each passing day, new rumored packages come out.

Are the 76ers any closer to moving the embattled Simmons, who hasn't played at all this season after a disastrous ending to the team's playoff run last year? Are the Kings any closer to making a major roster shakeup? The latest reporting came from Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer on Wednesday when he wrote that the Kings are considering a package of Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield, Harrison Barnes and two first-round draft picks for Simmons, Tobias Harris and Matisse Thybulle.

On Thursday, 76ers general manager Daryl Morey was asked about that specific rumor on The Mike Missanelli Show on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia.

"I will answer this as best I can," Morey said. "I can't talk about a specific [trade]. I can tell you for sure there are deals with the Sacramento Kings that I think would work. Will those deals ever happen? I have no idea. Are they just straight deals with the Kings? Probably not. Is it multiple teams? Probably. But for sure there are deals that are possible that would go over our line."

While Pompey reported that the Kings would be willing to include Hailburton in a potential trade, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported later on Wednesday that Sacramento's "current mindset" is to keep star guard De'Aaron Fox and build the team around him and Haliburton.

Morey also stated that he has had conversations regarding Simmons with just about every team in the NBA, but no talks have gotten close to the point where a deal would be finalized.

If the Kings and 76ers are going to come together on a blockbuster deal, they have three weeks left to agree to a package that works for both teams.
