The sports world lost an avid fan on Tuesday.
Penny Marshall, a world-renowned actress and director, died at the age of 75.
Marshall is best known for her role as Laverne DeFazio in "Laverne & Shirley." Marshall later transitioned from in front of the camera to behind the camera and directed "A League of Their Own" in 1992. The movie about a women's professional baseball team grossed $107.5 million in the US, according to the AP.

SIGN UP HERE Like a lot of celebrities, Marshall enjoyed attending NBA games. The Bronx-native resided in Los Angeles and was spotted at quite a few Lakers games.
But, Marshall was also in attendance for one of the most memorable events in Bay Area history.
The 2006-07 "We Believe" Warriors caught the attention of everyone, and according to Bay Area writer Cam Inman, Marshall was one of many celebrities sitting courtside as the No. 8 seed Warriors stunned the No. 1 seed Mavericks.
Marshall also supported the Sacramento Kings. In 2003, she was photographed sitting with then-owners Joe and Gavin Maloof. Marshall was wearing a Kings t-shirt.
Tom Hanks, who worked with Marshall on "A League of Their Own," posted a a tweet honoring Marshall.
Major League Baseball also sent out a tweet about Marshall.
