Kings takeaways: What we learned from deflating loss in Boston

BOX SCORE

In a game of runs, it was the Boston Celtics who hit last Thursday evening at TD Garden.

The Sacramento Kings led at the half and trailed by just one heading to the fourth, but Kyrie Irving, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Morris put up big numbers to push the Celtics over the top.

Here are three takeaways as the Kings fall in Boston by a final of 126-120 to dropped back under the .500 mark at 33-34 on the season.

Too Much Kyrie

After missing the previous matchup against Sacramento, Irving put on a show.

The All-Star guard attacked the Kings off the dribble early and when the game was in doubt in the fourth, he started hitting from the outside.

Irving torched the Kings for a 31-point, 12-assist, 10-rebound triple-double. He didn’t shoot the ball well, but his impact on the game was tremendous.

Fire

Where would the Kings be without Buddy Hield? Probably nowhere near the .500 mark on the season.

The third-year guard had struggled with his shot over the previous two games, but that wasn’t the case against Boston.

Hield put up 16 points in the first half to lead Sacramento and then he caught fire in the third, scoring 11 points as the game turned into an offensive battle.

The Kings’ leading scorer finish with 34 points on 14-for-24 shooting from the field and 6-of-10 from behind the arc. He added six assists and four rebounds in the loss.

Bagley's Back

Rookie Marvin Bagley was rolling when he tweaked his left knee at the end of February. He picked up where he left off Thursday against the Celtics.

On his 20th birthday, Bagley scored 10 points in his first 10 minute stint. He was active, attacked the glass and even hit a 3-pointer.

He posted a couple extra buckets in the second half to finish the game with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting to go with six rebounds in 19 minutes.

It’s clear that Bagley’s on a minutes restriction. There is no early word on what that means for the Kings’ back-to-back on Friday against the Sixers.
