Kings notes: Four new season lows set in loss to Lakers

SACRAMENTO -- Struggles with the jumper. The Sacramento Kings couldn’t buy a basket Saturday evening at Golden 1 Center and the Los Angeles Lakers ran them over for a 101-89 victory.

Sacramento shot just 34.8 percent from the field and turned the ball over 19 times as their high-powered offense screeched to a halt.

LeBron James led the way with a modest 25 points for Los Angeles and five other players scored in double-figures to help the Lakers improve to 6-6 on the season.

Here are five notes as the Kings fall to 7-6 on the season.

Fox was ready

De’Aaron Fox has taken the big leap. So far, he’s shown up big for Sacramento and Saturday was no different. The 20-year-old guard torched the Lakers for a team-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds and two steals.

He dominated the matchup with Lonzo Ball, but his team struggled to hit shots, which hurt his assist total and ended any chance the Kings had to win the game. Fox also managed to score just four points in the second half as Sacramento’s offense fell apart.

Buddy Bricks

Buddy Hield has been a breath of fresh air this season, but he couldn’t find the range against LA. The third-year guard shot just 3-for-17 from the field to finish the evening with 12 points. He chipped in four rebounds, but it wasn’t a good night for Hield.

Trouble with the foul

Willie Cauley-Stein posted a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double, but he struggled with foul trouble and played just 26 minutes. Like the rest of the club, Cauley-Stein forced things on the offensive end and finished with four turnovers.

No quit

Rookie Marvin Bagley continues to produce when given minutes. The 19-year-old kept attacking the basket late, dropping in 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting with three rebounds and two blocks in his 22 minutes of play.

Following the game, coach Dave Joerger mentioned giving Bagley a longer look at the center position in small ball lineups, which should get him at least a few more minutes to work with.

A game of season-lows

The Kings shot a season worst 34.8 percent from the field and 24 percent from behind the arc. They had a season-low 11 assists and their 86 point total snapped a seven-game streak of scoring 100 points or more.
