Kings' Jabari Parker tests positive for coronavirus, isolating in Chicago

As the Kings report back to work to prepare for the NBA’s restart in Orlando, the team released a statement from forward Jabari Parker on Wednesday confirming that he has tested positive for the coronavirus.

“Several days ago I tested positive for COVID-19 and immediately self-isolated in Chicago which is where I remain,” Parker announced. “I am progressing in my recovery and feeling well. I look forward to joining my teammates in Orlando as we return to the court for the resumption of the NBA season.”

Parker, 25, joined the Kings, along with center Alex Len, in a trade for big man Dewayne Dedmon on Feb. 6. He has played just one game with the Kings, scoring four points in the Kings’ 129-125 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Feb. 20.

There is no word on what the protocol is for players testing positive, but clearly Parker will be asked to stay away until he has a clean bill of health.

The former No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Parker has struggled to find his niche in the NBA. He is currently in the first year of a two-year, $13 million contract, which has a player option for next season.

Sacramento currently has a full roster of players heading into the season restart in Orlando. They added veteran Corey Brewer for added depth on Tuesday to bring the roster to 17 players, including their two-way players.

Parker has not been a part of the rotation, but he is a player that the Kings have shown interest in before. Hopefully he is able to clear all of the necessary hurdles and rejoin his teammates soon.

News 10’s Sean Cunningham was first with the information about a potential positive test among the Kings players.
