Wiseman has lofty goals, wants to be Warrior ‘forever'

High expectations come with being the No. 2 pick in the NBA draft. As do some pretty lofty goals.

Warriors rookie James Wiseman has experienced an up-and-down start to his professional career, but one thing is clear: The young center expects a whole lot out of himself.

“I want to be an All-Star, win MVP, win some rings, be one of the best players in the league,” Wiseman said in a phone conversation with the San Jose Mercury News' Wes Goldberg.

Fair enough.

The Warriors knew Wiseman would look raw at times early as a rookie after playing just three games in college, and he has. He essentially took the high school to pro route and was thrown right into the fire as a starter. That can't be easy.

Wiseman has played in 24 games this season, making 16 starts. Entering Wednesday, he's averaging 12.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks while playing 20.6 minutes per game. He also was named an NBA Rising Star on Wednesday.

Along with just All-Star Game appearances, winning an MVP and being a champion, Wiseman has another big goal for himself.

“I want to become a Warrior forever,” Wiseman told Goldberg.

The Warriors of course had long-term plans when they took the young big man with such a high selection, and hope to keep him in the Bay Area for years to come.
