Why Wilbon says Warriors ‘don't need' to trade for Beal

As rumors continue to swirl regarding Washington Wizards' star Bradley Beal and a potential eventual trade, the Warriors have found themselves smack in the middle of the speculation.

The 27-year-old, two-time NBA All-Star is approaching his prime, but it's clear the Wizards (4-12) aren't anywhere close to being league contenders, and won't be for a while. This had led to wide-spread hearsay around the league about potential trades --  if Washington decides to entertain offers.

Given the current state of the organization, the Warriors might be one of the best-suited teams for a Beal trade. But do they need him? At least one NBA analyst believes they don't.

ESPN analyst and "Pardon the Interruption" co-host Michael Wilbon joined 95.7 The Game on Tuesday, explaining why

"I love [Bradley] Beal, and God knows how wonderfully he would fit in with the Warriors, but mortgage the future? You don't need to! They get Klay [Thompson] back, they will be trouble for some people," Wilbon said on "Damon, Rotto & Kolsky."

Right now, the inconsistent Warriors certainly would benefit from a player like Beal. Golden State has shown flashes of promise, but they have yet to string together three straight wins. While they could still slot into the playoffs, they definitely don't bear resemblance to their dynasty days. But they still remain a force in the league, especially once Thompson returns from a torn Achilles next year.

Adding the NBA's leading scorer in Beal would obviously be a huge gain, but Wilbon doesn't believe it's necessary once the Warriors get their five-time NBA All-Star and three-time NBA champion back on the floor.

If the Warriors decide to pursue Beal however, they possess one of the league's most intriguing package options. No. 2 overall pick and rookie standout James Wiseman would almost certainly be on the table. Golden State also has the Minnesota Timberwolves' top-three protected first-round pick in 2021.

Still, NBA teams reportedly don't expect Washington to make Beal available, at least not any time soon. But if that changes, expect the Warriors to dial the phone, and expect the Wizards to listen.
