Why Warriors played baseball instead of practicing Wednesday

Despite the current MLB lockout, there was baseball being played in the Bay Area for a little while Wednesday.

On a day off between home games, the Warriors went away from the usual full practice schedule and instead, played home run derby inside Chase Center.

"Everyone's tired from all the travel the last month of so and it just felt like a good day to unwind and do something fun," Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters Thursday before the game against the Indiana Pacers.

Kerr mentioned that Klay Thompson, whose brother Trayce, has over 600 MLB at-bats, and Steph Curry had the most success with the bat in their hands, while other members of the Warriors struggled.

"Not everybody played baseball growing up," Kerr said with a laugh.

While the Warriors beat the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night, they've gone through a bit of a lull over the last few weeks, so a fun activity probably was a good way to loosen things up and allow the guys to share some laughs together.
