Why Tim Hardaway calls Draymond ‘head of snake' for Warriors

Draymond Green finished third in the Defensive Player of the Year voting, and was named NBA All-Defensive First Team for the fourth time in his career.

The three-time NBA champion is the most versatile defender in the league.

"For his height, he can stick one through five -- which is remarkable," Warriors legend Tim Hardaway said Tuesday on 95.7 The Game's "The Morning Roast" show. "I commend him. If his team was at the top of the NBA in wins, I think he would have had a legitimate chance at getting Defensive Player of the Year."

Hardaway then took the praise to another level.

"I'll say this about the Golden State Warriors -- Draymond Green is the head of the snake for the Warriors," he said. "If you cut off his head, there's no more snake and there's no more toughness.

"He brings the toughness, he brings the energy, he brings the charisma and he brings the confidence to that team. He wears a lot of hats for that team."

Yes he does, and it's why Draymond is invaluable and indispensable.

And yours truly firmly believes Draymond will be better in those areas next season.

"He doesn't want to be let off the hook for that," Golden State president of basketball operations Bob Myers said in late May. "He's not that type of human being. He's not gonna run from it.

"It requires practice, it requires coming in with a new mindset. We're confident and he seems motivated."
