Why Steph believes ‘sky is the limit' for rookie Mannion

Nico Mannion in the summer of 2018 attended Steph Curry's SC30 Select Camp in the Bay Area.

About two-and-a-half years later, the Warriors selected Mannion in the second round (No. 48) of the NBA draft.

"I talked to him right after the draft. Definitely a full-circle moment," Curry told the media on a Wednesday afternoon conference call. "The sky is the limit for him.

"He's kind of wise beyond his years. He has a game that doesn't look like a 19-year-old that is just coming out of college."

Mannion one year ago was considered a top-10 draft prospect. But his stock significantly slipped after one season at the University of Arizona.

The former McDonald's All-American averaged 14.0 points and 5.3 assists over 32 games for the Wildcats, but shot just 39.2 percent overall and 32.7 percent from deep.

"Excited about the learning curve for him. He doesn't lack confidence at all," Curry said. "He knows he belongs. He knows he has the potential to have a long career in this league."

Mannion signed a two-way contract with Golden State, which means he is allowed to suit up for 50 NBA games this season. He is expected to spend some time in the G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors as well.
