Why Kerr couldn't pick favorite moment from Dubs' unique season

The Warriors’ 2021-22 NBA season has been unlike any other for coach Steve Kerr.

Injuries and absences throughout the Dubs’ 82 games have made headlines, but there have also been countless noteworthy highlights as the team cemented a playoff spot for the first time since 2019.

So which moment from this season was Kerr’s favorite? Well, it’s complicated.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Sunday’s season finale against the New Orleans Pelicans, Kerr said he can’t choose just one.

“I don’t have one favorite,” Kerr said, and went on to list some of the best things that happened for Golden State over the last six months.

“Seeing Steph [Curry] break the [3-point] record was really an amazing night,” Kerr said.

Curry became the most prolific 3-point shooter in NBA history against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 14 when he surpassed Ray Allen’s record with his 2,974th make. Curry needed just 789 games to claim the record, compared to Allen’s 1,300.

While Allen’s record stood for nearly 11 years, 34-year-old Curry’s spot at the top could become unbeatable as his career continues.

Kerr went on to name the Warriors’ 116-107 victory over the Phoenix Suns at Footprint Center on Christmas Day as another favorite moment, referring to it as a “great team night.” Curry dropped a game-high 33 points that night, and the team pulled away from the Suns in the fourth quarter thanks to an inspiring shooting performance from Otto Porter Jr. At the time, Phoenix was the only NBA team with a better record than the Dubs.

“... Just being short handed and going into Phoenix winning that game, it was special,” Kerr said.

Seeing Kevon Looney play all 82 games this season was another bright spot for Kerr, he continued, as was watching Klay Thompson return to the court after two years and two devastating injuries on Jan. 9.

“The night Klay returned from injury was incredible to watch,” Kerr said.

In retrospect, Golden State’s season was filled with memorable moments.

It’s no surprise Kerr couldn’t pick just one.
