Why Fraschilla believes Wagner to Dubs at No. 7 is ‘too high'

Franz Wagner almost assuredly will be a lottery pick.

And the Warriors possess the No. 7 and No. 14 overall selections in this month's NBA draft.

But it doesn't sound like college basketball analyst Fran Fraschilla -- who is calling games at the Tokyo Olympics this summer -- would use one of those selections on Wagner.

"I like him [but] I don't like him with the seventh pick," Fraschilla said last week on the Dubs Talk podcast with Grant Liffmann and Kendra Andrews. "I think that's too high.

"He's a good athlete [but] not a great athlete. He's got a multitude of skills, he does a lot of things pretty well [but] nothing great.

"I think that's too high. Maybe [at] 14."

Wagner is a 6-foot-9 forward who played two seasons at Michigan.

He averaged 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks for the Wolverines last season, while shooting 34.3 percent from beyond the arc.

"Sometimes, he looks like a legit 40 percent 3-point shooter in the future," The Athletic's Sam Vecenie writes. "Other times, he looks like a 30 percent guy and totally non-confident in the jumper mechanics.

"Whichever one he is will determine his career."
