Warriors won't be bidding on Baron Davis

Dontexpect Baron Davis to be walking through that door. At least not for theWarriors.WhileWarriors officials didnt want to comment on the availability of Daviswhomthe Cleveland Cavaliers waived through amnesty on Wednesdayit seems apparentthey will make no attempt to bring back the leader of the 2006-07 We Believeteam.By usingthe amnesty provision on Davis, the remainder of his salaryapproximately 28.5million over the next two seasonswill come off the Cavaliers salary cap. NBAteams that are under the salary cap can now place bids for Davisservices.TheWarriors wont be doing that.

Davis was adynamic performer for the Warriors in leading them to their only playoffappearance in the past 17 seasons in 2007. He was every bit as good thefollowing season, when he played all 82 games and led the team to a 48-34record.But hehasnt been the same player since, struggling through injury-riddled seasonsfor the L.A. Clippers and Cavaliers. Its nosecret the Warriors are considering trying to acquire a bigger guardand onewho likely can play a little point guard. But the problem is Davis has a backinjury and is out indefinitely. If the Warriors are going to go out and getsome backcourt support, they need someone who can play sooner rather thanlater.
