Warriors to give Omri Casspi his ring; Steve Kerr ‘felt horrible for him'

Omri Casspi sprained his ankle on March 16 and did not suit up for the Warriors again. This was his final play:

Just before the regular season ended, Casspi was waived in place of Quinn Cook. It was a very frustrating situation for the 30-year-old, who had said that signing with Golden State was a dream come true.

"I enjoyed coaching Omri. He really fit our system, our style well," Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters after practice Sunday. "He's such a great cutter. It was fun watching him play with our other guys because of his ability to read situations and back cut (#CasspiCuts).

"It just didn't work out. I felt horrible for him at the end of the season when we had the Steph injury and we had no choice. We didn't have a roster spot. We had to have Quinn because he had played so well and Steph was still injured going into the playoffs.

"Just one of those weird NBA things where he got kinda left out."

Over a 19-game stretch last season from Nov. 19 to Dec. 30 (which included six starts), Casspi averaged 8.6 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting just under 61 percent from the field.

Why Kerr compares relationship with Steph to Popovich-Duncan

Kerr admits Warriors were ‘dead in the water' before the Butler trade

The one thing he didn't do in a Warriors uniform was shoot many 3-pointers. Casspi attempted just 22 triples in 740 total minutes -- or one every 33.6 minutes.

During the 2015-16 season, he got up 274 3-pointers in 1,880 minutes -- or one every 6.9 minutes (remember when he made nine 3-pointers against the Warriors?)

Casspi signed with Memphis in July and is averaging 5.6 points in about 12 minutes per game so far. He will face his former team Monday night at Oracle Arena.

"We're excited to see him tomorrow and give him his ring," Kerr added.
