The wait for James Wiseman continues.
Wiseman, the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, will not play for the Warriors' summer league team during the upcoming California Classic at Chase Center. The Warriors still remain hopeful Wiseman will play later next month during summer league in Las Vegas.
"James being out, he's just starting his buildup of playing live again," Seth Cooper, who will coach the Warriors' California Classic team, said Wednesday to reporters. "So we want to make sure he gets some practices, and he practiced today and was able to go through stuff today. For him to get some practices in, it will be the first time he's really going live, whether than have that first time be in a game.

"In a normal buildup we would have in a season, we would do some practices and some 5-on-5 scrimmage stuff before we would throw him into a game. That's kind of what we will use the next little bit of time with, with the goal of then getting him ready to play live in games towards the end of summer league."
The Warriors are guaranteed to play on July 8, 10, 12 and 15 in Las Vegas.
Wiseman missed all of last season after experiencing complications to his surgically-repaired right knee. His rookie year was cut short to 39 games after sustaining a torn meniscus. This past season, Wiseman played three games for Cooper's Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League but was then shut down after experiencing swelling in his knee.
As a rookie, Wiseman averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds. In his three G League games, the 7-footer put up 17.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.

Warriors fans also will have to wait and see 19-year-old Jonathan Kuminga. He still is back home in the Congo where his brother is competing to make the national team. Kuminga will meet the Warriors in Vegas. He's expected to play there.
Kuminga played in 70 regular-season games for the Warriors where he averaged 9.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. That accounts for 19.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per 36 minutes. He's a highlight waiting to happen, who also appeared in 16 of the Warriors' 22 playoff games and even started three of them.

While Kuminga was taken with the No. 7 pick in the 2021 draft, the Warriors added Moses Moody seven picks later. And Dub Nation won't have to wait to see him play again. Moody will play in the California Classic either on Saturday against the Sacramento Kings or Sunday vs. the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Arkansas product was praised for his maturity and work ethic as a rookie, and he averaged almost 13 minutes per game in the Western Conference finals. His role is expected to grow exponentially next season.
Both of the Warriors' top two draft picks this year -- Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Ryan Rollins -- will not be part of the California Classic. Baldwin's left ankle has to be cleared, and there's hope he'll see time in Vegas. Rollins is out for both summer leagues with a stress fracture in his right foot, which he didn't feel and was recently discovered during his mandatory physical.
