Warriors' struggles in clutch exemplified by these rough stats

As the Warriors look to end their five-game road trip on a positive note against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night, recent stats reveal exactly why the team hasn't looked quite like itself heading down the stretch.

Despite a week that produced more losses than wins, NBA.com's latest NBA Power Rankings have the Warriors ranked No. 7, up one spot from No. 8 last week. The rankings include some telling stats which paint a clear picture of how and why the Dubs have dropped a majority of their recent games, and their biggest struggles have come in clutch moments.

There was one bright spot for the Warriors during their current road trip, when they defeated the Miami Heat at FTX Arena on Wednesday. After blowing a 19-point lead, the Warriors bounced back in the fourth quarter to complete a season sweep over Miami -- all without Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.  The win was highlighted by stellar performances from rookie Jonathan Kuminga and 22-year-old Jordan Poole on a night where the young Warriors stepped up big.

But that was Golden State’s only win over its last six contests. Since Steph Curry came out of the Warriors’ March 16 home matchup against the Boston Celtics with a foot injury -- which they ultimately lost 110-88 -- the Dubs have been on a skid. The Steph-less squad also lost their next home game to the San Antonio Spurs, and on their current road trip have fallen to the Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards.

The Warriors are now 3-8 without Curry this season and are 6-10 since the All-Star break, even though they have a positive point differential over that span.

Of those 16 games since the All-Star break, the Warriors have played in 10 games that have come down to the wire, but the team hasn’t been able to capitalize in clutch opportunities. Golden State has now lost nine of those 10 games that were within five points in the last five minutes, and the team has only scored 56 points on 65 clutch possessions during that same stretch.

Both Curry and Thompson haven't quite come up big in those moments, having combined to shoot 0-for-10 on clutch 3s, with Thompson missing seven of those, per NBA.com. The Warriors as a whole also struggled from the three-point line during Wednesday's loss to Washington, as they shot only 8-for-33 from deep.

Despite the recent lack of clutch performances in addition to a slew of big injuries this season, young players like Poole have stepped up when necessary. Poole completed his 13th straight game of at least 20 points scored Sunday night, and the Dubs will certainly look to their other youngsters during the final stretch of the season.

There’s no doubt that Curry’s presence is missed on the court, but the Warriors will be getting one seasoned veteran back in action on Monday as Andre Iguodala makes his return. As the current No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, the Dubs will need plenty of clutch performances in coming games as they prepare for playoffs.
