Warriors' Steve Kerr doesn't think 2020 NBA champion deserves asterisk

The NBA is in an unprecedented situation. The league hasn't played a game since pausing the season after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert was diagnosed with the coronavirus on March 11.

Now that the 2019-20 regular season is set to resume in late July, some have said that no matter who wins this year's NBA Finals, the victors deserve an asterisk next to the championship in light of the many unique circumstances associated with this year's postseason.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr pushed back on that notion during an appearance on 95.7 The Game on Monday afternoon.

"The one thing I feel really strongly about is a championship under these conditions is gonna count," Kerr said on "Damon, Ratto and Kolsky." "People are gonna want to put an asterisk next to it. There's no asterisk in my mind. This is gonna be a brutally difficult journey to try and win a title."

Twenty-two teams will be traveling to Orlando to conclude the regular season and playoffs, but Kerr and the Warriors won't be among them. Teams will play eight regular-season games before a standard 16-team postseason gets underway, with all competition taking place inside Disney's Wide World of Sports.
