Warriors one of six teams interested in Batum, agent says

The Warriors have their eyes on another wing as they look to be title contenders despite the loss of Klay Thompson for the 2020-21 season.

Nicolas Batum's agent told French outlet BasketSession.com that the Warriors are one of six teams interested in the 31-year-old small forward, according to the English translation. The other five are the Brooklyn Nets, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors.

Batum isn't yet a free agent. The Hornets plan on waiving him after agreeing to terms on a contract with forward Gordon Hayward. Batum would have to clear waivers before signing with any team.

It shouldn't come as a surprise the Warriors would be interested in signing Batum once he becomes a free agent. They entered free agency with a need on the wing, and that continues even after acquiring Kelly Oubre and agreeing to terms with Kent Bazemore. Batum is far from a star at this point in his career, but he's still a serviceable veteran who should help a contender.

Batum only played in 22 games last season and averaged a career-low 3.6 points per game. But he is a 35.7 percent shooter from 3-point range for his career and should be able to help the Warriors in that area if Golden State adds him.

As the rest of the Western Conference continues to load up, the Warriors need what they can get right now. If that happens to be Batum, they'll gladly take him.
