Warriors land No. 28 pick, hope to find another Poole

The last time the Warriors owned the No. 28 pick in the NBA draft, they landed Jordan Poole.

Golden State will be hoping the good vibes at No. 28 stick in the 2022 NBA Draft. On Monday, the NBA performed the necessary tiebreakers for the 2022 draft, and the Warriors, who finished the season at 53-29 along with the Miami Heat, landed the No. 28 pick. Miami received the No. 27 pick.

After struggling early on in his NBA career, Poole has been sensational in Year 3. He was arguably the most impactful new face in the NBA and should have been a finalist for Most Improved Player.

Poole spent some time in the G League early on, but his confidence never wavered and now he's an integral part of the Warriors' title hopes.

The Michigan product torched the Denver Nuggets for 30 points in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series on Saturday and has never doubted he belonged on the court with future Hall of Famers Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

"Since Day 1," Poole said before the series when asked when he felt like he belonged in the NBA and could play with the likes of Klay and Steph. "As soon as I walked in, I knew I belonged, it would just be a matter of time until I was able to show that."

Of course, it hasn't all been good luck for the Warriors at pick No. 28.

One year before they drafted Poole, the Warriors selected Jacob Evans with the No. 28 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Evans played one-and-a-half seasons for the Warriors, averaging 2.9 points per game in 57 career games with Golden State. Evans was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in February 2020 in the Andrew Wiggins deal. Evans played two games with the Timberwolves and has not logged an NBA minute since the 2019-20 season.

He averaged 6.1 points per game in 29 contests for the Santa Cruz Warriors this season.

The Warriors hope another Poole-like steal awaits them at No. 28 come June.
