Toscano-Anderson's tweet comes amid racial tensions gripping the United States, which picked up again in recent weeks following the death of George Floyd, a Black man, while in police custody in Minneapolis.
Since Floyd's death, numerous incidents involving police using force against minorites have occurred. The latest happened Friday when 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks was shot and killed by Atlanta police in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant.
With protests happening all over the country, Toscano-Anderson has been a leading voice in the Bay Area. The 27-year-old has organized several peaceful marches in Oakland, where he was born.
