Warriors guard Alec Burks reveals ankle still isn't 100 percent healed

Alec Burks rolled his right ankle the day before the Warriors' preseason opener against the Lakers.

He ended up missing the entire exhibition slate, as well as the first three regular-season games.

The 28-year-old somewhat eased his way back into action, playing 18 and 16 minutes, respectively, over his first two appearances.

But Burks is averaging 27.5 minutes over Golden State's last 14 contests.

How long did it take him to get back to full strength?

"I still don't think I'm there," Burks told reporters Sunday after practice. "Just playing so much and then playing even more because a lot of people have been hurt -- that's kind of hindered my ankle a little bit.

"But it's gonna get better throughout the year. It's a long season, so it'll just keep getting better and better. But it just takes time. Time and repetition.

"I wouldn't say it's a big issue, but it's still there a little bit. But the training staff's been great to me."

Based on how he has played over the last three weeks, you would never know he's not at 100 percent yet.

Burks is averaging 17.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists over the last 10 games, while shooting just over 34 percent from deep.

"Alec has been a rock. He's been fantastic. We're lucky to have him," coach Steve Kerr told reporters Sunday. "He's been a great player for us. Two-way player -- putting pressure on the ball, big wing who can guard multiple spots -- and then getting downhill with the ball. He puts a lot of pressure on the defense.

"I love his approach. No nonsense, no drama, just comes to work every day. A joy to be around and the young guys really look up to him."

Sources (my eyes) can confirm that Burks is someone you want in your locker room.
