The Warriors on Sunday reached an agreement with veteran center Anderson Varejao, who will provide depth in their suddenly thin frontcourt.

SIGN UP HERE The Warriors have not yet announced a deal with Varejao, but it has been reported and was confirmed by CSNBayArea.com through multiple league sources Sunday night.
Varejao, 33, became a free agent after clearing waivers Sunday afternoon. He was waived Friday by Portland, which acquired him from Cleveland a day earlier.

With backup center Festus Ezeli recovering from knee surgery for the next month and starter Andrew Bogut limping on a tender Achilles tendon, the Warriors had an immediate need for a defensive presence up front.

Varejao’s reputation is that of an active, engaged defender in the paint. He brings size (6-foot-10, 270 pounds) and playoff experience. He spent nearly 12 seasons with the Cavaliers, appearing in 71 postseason games.
Veteran forward/center Jason Thompson, acquired by the Warriors in a July trade with the 76ers, reportedly was waived to make room for Varejao.
Thompson averaged 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds per game in just 28 games with Golden State.
The Warriors were among several teams that were interested in Varejao, who rejoins former Cleveland teammate Luke Walton, an assistant coach for the Warriors, and Brazilian National teammate Leandro Barbosa.
