Warriors' Bogut diagnosed with concussion

OAKLAND -- Warriors center Andrew Bogut, who left in the third quarter of a 111-95 win over New Orleans on Tuesday night after sustaining a laceration to his head, has been diagnosed with a concussion, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.

Bogut will not be cleared to play until symptoms subside, as dictated by NBA protocol guidelines.

Bogut was injured when he banged heads with Pelicans forward Dante Cunningham while both were going for a rebound. Cunningham fell to the floor, while Bogut immediately walked off the court as blood streamed down the right side his face from the cut.

Interim coach Luke Walton said earlier Wednesday that if Bogut were to be diagnosed with a concussion, “we’ll have other bigs step up and fill that role.”

Festus Ezeli, who played well in relief of Bogut on Tuesday, likely will start Friday night when the Warriors face the Rockets in Houston.

Bogut, who was playing with a mask to protect a broken nose sustained Oct. 15, took three stitches to close the cut but was unable to pass league-mandated concussion protocol.

He will be evaluated daily, according to the Warriors, until it has been determined he is able to return to the court.

Prior to his prognosis going public, Bogut posted an interesting tweet:
