Walton: Barnes could be out ‘few weeks' with ankle sprain

OAKLAND – Harrison Barnes, who was listed on the injury list as “doubtful” for the game against the Kings, will not play, Warriors interim coach Luke Walton said late Saturday afternoon.

Starting in Barnes’ place will be guard/forward Brandon Rush, Walton said.

“We have faith in Brandon, and we would like to keep Andre (Iguodala) anchoring that second unit,” Walton said.

Barnes could miss additional time, pending the outcome of further tests, according to Walton.

“With an ankle sprain, it could be a few weeks,” Walton said. “Or it could be a week.”

Barnes sprained his left ankle after landing atop the foot of Phoenix forward Markieff Morris in the third quarter of the Warriors-Suns game Friday night in Phoenix. He was assisted into the locker room and did not return. X-rays revealed no structural damage.

Barnes, who had made 101 consecutive regular-season starts prior to being sidelined Saturday night, is averaging 13.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
