Steve Kerr's best, funniest quotes in his six years as Warriors coach

Steve Kerr was introduced as head coach of the Warriors on May 20, 2014.

Over the last six years, he has become a quote machine. The eight-time NBA champion has some underrated comedic chops.

So we decided to go through the archives and relive some of his best comments and one-liners (in chronological order).

There is no doubt that some slipped through the cracks and are not included here. But we tried to compile as many as we could.

Enjoy ...

1) Kerr is a liar!

2) On June 16, 2015, the Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 6 of the NBA Finals to capture their first title since 1975:

3) Kerr took a leave of absence before the 2015-16 season started, and missed the first 43 games. Under interim coach Luke Walton, the Warriors won their first 24 games before losing to the Milwaukee Bucks on Dec. 12.

A couple days later, Kerr told Tim Kawakami:

“I thought we’d go 25-0 to be honest with you,” Kerr said, cracking up as he said it. "I sent (Walton) a text after the Milwaukee game; I said, ‘What the hell are you doing? You have no idea what you’re doing, do you?’ Joking!”

4) Kerr returned to the bench on Jan. 22, 2016 as the Warriors won 73 games and broke the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' record for most wins in a single season in NBA history.

He was named NBA Coach of the Year:

5) On Nov. 7, 2016, Steph Curry rewrote NBA history:

6) On Dec. 5, 2016, Klay Thompson scored 60 points against the Indiana Pacers in just 29 minutes. He did not play in the fourth quarter. Could he have eclipsed Kobe Bryant's 81 points?

"I guess he could if it was a close game," Kerr told reporters. "Another 12 minutes, who knows? I'm holding him back.

"Like they said, Dean Smith was the only guy who could hold MJ (Michael Jordan) under 20, I'm the only guy who can hold Klay under 80 I guess."

7) On Feb. 4, 2017, Kerr was ejected during the Warriors' loss to the Sacramento Kings (and subsequently fined $25,000 by the league). A couple days later, he said:

"My mom, by the way, was really upset with me. She called me the next day and said, 'That was embarrassing, Steven. Don't do that again.' So, it's a one-shot deal. I can't do that again...

"It's only Steven when she's really upset."

8) In August 2017, Kerr told Scott Ostler of The San Francisco Chronicle how he's spending his time before training camp starts in a month:

“I’m on the phone, talking to (general manager) Bob Myers, talking to our coaches and to different people. Writing down thoughts, putting together plans for our coaching retreat. It might be just something that pops into my head, where I just stop and write something down.

"But I’m not Jon Gruden. I’m not waking up at five in the morning and going to the film room."

9) This is from a November 2017 article:

With Kevin Durant and Draymond Green out against the Bulls, Kerr was ready to announce who would replace them. Get your phones ready, reporters.

"You guys ready to tweet?" Kerr asked reporters. "We're gonna start Omri and Jordan Bell."

Kerr then began to shuffle his deck of cards and said, "As soon as you're down tweeting, we'll resume human contact. But in the meantime, stare at your phones, ignore me, I'm just practicing my shuffling."

10) You got to love when Kerr talks some trash. As Marc Spears of The Undefeated wrote after the Warriors beat the Houston Rockets in Game 7 of the 2018 Western Conference finals:

Apparently, Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni told Warriors All-Star forward Kevin Durant during Game 7 that his team would have won the series if (Chris) Paul played.

While unwinding long after the win with Morton’s The Steakhouse cuisine and a cold one, Kerr responded to those words by saying, “We would have won the series in five if Iggy (Andre Iguodala) played.”

11) On Jan. 30, 2018, the Warriors lost to the Utah Jazz by 30 points. After Golden State won the 2018 title, Jordan Bell told Anthony Slater of the Athletic a great story:

“He (Kerr) came in the locker room and was like, ‘You know what guys, we had a bad whistle, tough luck on some shots, one or two breaks and we would’ve won this game.' I mean, we had just lost by 30. Everyone started dying laughing."

12) DeMarcus Cousins made his Warriors debut on Jan. 18, 2019. He picked up his first technical on Jan. 24.

"Yeah, I lost a bet," Kerr said on KNBR 680. "I had Game 2 as his first technical. But it took three games."

13) On Feb. 3, 2019, the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl. The next day, Kerr told reporters:

"It just gets old watching the same team win the whole thing ... that was really arrogant wasn't it? It was kind of fun to say that."

Remember, the Warriors had won three of the last four titles and were the favorites again. Funny stuff!

14) During the Warriors' home loss to the Phoenix Suns on March 10, 2019, Kerr was caught on camera during a timeout telling assistant coach Mike Brown: "I'm so f---king tired of Draymond's s--t.'"

After practice the next day, Kerr joked with reporters: "No. No. The lip readers were wrong. What I said was, 'I beg to differ with Draymond's approach tonight.' Those were my exact words. I don't know how somebody misconstrued that."

15) On May 4, 2019, the Warriors played the Houston Rockets in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals. After shootaround, a reporter mentioned how the Rockets missed 26 consecutive 3-pointers against Golden State in Game 7 of the 2018 Western Conference finals. Kerr interjected with:

"Twenty-seven. But who's counting?"

16) Warriors rookie Eric Paschall scored 25 points against the Charlotte Hornets on Nov. 2. After Paschall racked up 34 points against the Portland Trail Blazers on Nov. 4, Kerr took a playful shot at Jay Wright -- Paschall's college coach at Villanova.

17) After the Warriors dropped to 2-12 this season, Kerr explained to Mark Medina of USA Today Sports why he hasn't reached out to Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson -- one of Kerr's mentors.

"Phil doesn’t know anything about a losing team (laughing). So there’s no point in calling him."

19) On April 2, Kerr explained why he isn't doing video conference calls with his players during shelter-in-place:

"I got a text yesterday from Luke Walton. He said, 'Have you had any Zoom conference calls with your team?' And I said, 'No. Have you?' He goes, 'No. I'm hearing that other teams are doing that and I was feeling bad that we weren't.' And I said, 'You know what -- it's fake. It's fake hustle (laughter).'

"Picture this -- you're a player and this kind of suspension to a season is happening, do you really want to get on a Zoom conference call with your coach? No! No! It's the last thing you want. It's fake hustle. We're not doing any of that stuff."

20) And last but not least -- a tweet from April 5:
