Steve Kerr tells hilarious story of winning bet with Michael Jordan

NBA legend Michael Jordan loved to gamble on practically everything.

Warriors coach -- and former Chicago Bulls guard Steve Kerr -- was smart enough to keep his distance.

But Kerr did put some money on the line with MJ from time to time when they were teammates on the Bulls in the mid-90s, and he told a great story Tuesday to Ashley Adamson of the Pac-12 Network.

Some quick context first: Kerr went to the University of Arizona and Jordan went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (just felt like being very official).

On March 29, 1997, Kerr's Wildcats defeated Jordan's Tar Heels in the Final Four (and then beat Kentucky in the title game).

OK, time for the story.

"Jud Buechler also was on that team -- my Arizona teammate. So there was a little bit of (trash) talk. We tread carefully around Michael. But we had a $20 bet, and Michael wadded up a $20 bill and threw it at me when I walked into the locker room for our game that night.

"And then in layup lines that night, every time Michael would get the rebound to throw it to the shooter -- if it were Jud or me -- he wouldn't throw it to us. He would just throw it to the guy behind us (laughter). It was not an easy night, but it was a good night."

That's so perfectly on-brand for Jordan.

Why Kerr views Butler's long-term Warriors fit as ‘easily sustainable'

So the six-time NBA champion took his frustration out on the Bulls' opponent that night and scored 60 points, right?

Surprisingly, no.

Jordan had a pretty modest stat line for his standards -- 21 points (9-for-21 FG), 10 assists, six rebounds and two blocks in a 111-102 win over the New Jersey Nets.

Kerr, by the way, recorded five points (1-for-5 on 3s), four assists, two rebounds and two steals in 25 minutes off the bench.
