Kevin Durant will not play in Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Warriors and Toronto Raptors because of a right calf strain.

But you already knew that. You want to know about a potential return for Game 2 on Sunday.

If you were hoping for good news, don't hold your breath.

"He was on the court today taking some shots -- just basically on his own, nothing with the team," Golden State head coach Steve Kerr said Wednesday evening on KNBR 680. "And he's been ramping up his rehab. He's coming along really well, but he's sort of in a race against the clock.

"We've already announced he won't play tomorrow and considering Game 2 is Sunday and he hasn't practiced with the team, you know -- it's pretty doubtful that he'll play Game 2."

When addressing reporters at NBA Finals Media Day earlier on Wednesday, Kerr didn't specifically say that the reigning two-time NBA Finals MVP was "pretty doubtful."

"His next step is individual court work. That will be the next priority over the next couple of days and hopefully he can ramp that up," Kerr said. "And then he's gonna have to practice.

"We have to see him in practice before he can play a game and he hasn't practiced yet."

Even with KD sidelined indefinitely, most people are picking Golden State to win the series.

Yours truly believes it's going to be a dogfight and that Durant -- particularly because the Dubs are facing Kawhi Leonard -- will be deeply missed.

"He'll keep working and our training staff will keep working with him and hopefully at some point in the series we'll get him back," Kerr said.
