Steph Curry tells story of encouraging call he received from Monta Ellis

Do you remember what happened at Warriors Media Day back in 2009?

In case you forgot -- Monta Ellis told reporters that he and Steph Curry could not thrive together because he didn't think Golden State would be able to win that way.

Clearly, this isn't something you want to hear your franchise player say publicly. But despite the controversial remarks, Curry and Monta had a strong relationship.

And on the most recent episode of Showtime's "All the Smoke" with Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes, Curry provided an example of their bond.

"He called me my second year. I was playing terrible for like two weeks straight, and he called me after practice one day and gave me some good words of encouragement.

"And you don't have to do that. Especially with ... 'there's a threat between both of us' and this and that and the storylines and all that. He didn't care. It was just about how we can hoop and get better together and get to know each other.

"He called me out the blue. And was just like, 'Yo, let me know. You're feeling pressure, you're dealing with expectations -- I'm dealing with the same stuff.' I love Monta for that, and that's why I wanted to rep (him) with the jerseys last year I wore to Oracle. I had to make sure they knew how much I appreciated him."

You can try to find an example of either player hating on the other, but you won't find it.

And that's very cool.
