Steph Curry leaves Warriors' preseason finale feeling ‘under the weather'

SAN JOSE -- Midway through the first quarter of the Warriors-Lakers game Friday night at SAP Center, Stephen Curry spent several minutes in conversation with Dr. Rick Celebrini, the team’s director of sports medicine. Something clearly was wrong.

Seated on the bench, Curry gripped or gestured toward his left ankle at least three times during that conversation.

He went back into the game and continued to play well, but after being replaced by Quinn Cook with 23.9 seconds remaining in the quarter, Curry never returned.

The Warriors described his condition as “under the weather,” offering no specifics.

But anytime Curry even looks at his ankle, much less appears to discuss it with the team’s training staff, an alarm goes off.

Shortly after he was replaced, Curry went into the locker room. His return was described as “doubtful.” When he next came out, after halftime, his ankle supports had been removed -- a sign that he was done for the evening.

Maybe this is no more than a brief illness or mild discomfort, and Curry will be good for practice Sunday and ready for opening night on Tuesday.
