They became the most popular team in the league in the process, and now are a global brand with fans all across the world.
If the Warriors -- after finishing with the worst record (15-50) in the NBA last season -- are title contenders again in 2020-21, will that help improve the NBA's TV ratings?

SIGN UP HERE “That’s hard to predict," Commissioner Adam Silver told the San Francisco Chronicle's Connor Letourneau on Monday. "As a league, we recognize that the restart [in Orlando] was tough in some ways. We don’t read too much into the ratings from this past summer. We were in a different time of year, different competition. There was obviously enormous and intense interest in election coverage.
"The goal of the league is to have 30 teams that all, when well-managed, are in a position to compete for championships. So, to the extent that the Warriors are rewarded through strong management by continuing to be a team in contention, I see that as a positive because they become a role model for other teams in the league.
"There’s also no question that continuity helps build fans nationally and internationally, for that matter. I think fans are drawn to familiar faces, especially when it comes to playoff competition.
“But at the end of the day, fans in every market are rooting for their teams. Especially a casual fan that tunes in for playoff basketball, he or she just wants to see the best competition. That’s defined by who wins.”

Silver didn't explicitly answer the question. But it's safe to assume that he very much wants to see the Warriors bounce back in a big way next season.
Put simply, if Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, etc. are healthy and winning games, the ratings absolutely will improve/increase.
Die-hard NBA fans, as well as less enthusiastic observers at large, will be interested to see if Golden State can retool and make another run.

And Silver expects that to happen.
“I’m very confident that they’ll return to contention quickly," he told Letourneau. "I look at the quality of their management. Of course, the quality of the players that are currently on their roster.
"I have no reason to believe they won’t be back as a top-tier team in the NBA.”
