Schroder to Celtics all but guarantees Warriors won't use MLE

The last relatively big fish still available in free agency has been reeled in by the Boston Celtics.

Point guard Dennis Schroder has agreed to a one-year contract with the Celtics, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday, citing multiple sources. Boston reportedly is signing Schroder using the full $5.9 million taxpayer mid-level exception (MLE).

Schroder confirmed he is signing with the Celtics on Instagram.

With Schroder off the market, it all but guarantees that the Warriors will not be using their own taxpayer MLE, or at least not all of it. There simply aren't any remaining free agents who would be worth the cost, which would be further inflated by luxury tax penalties.

The Warriors could use another playmaking guard, and Schroder would have been a potential fit. It's unknown if they offered him the full taxpayer MLE, but they had the ability to offer him the same deal he ultimately accepted.
