As the NBA focused more on pace-and-space play over the last decade, the idea of spending a top pick on a center became taboo for many of the best organizations in the league.
The Warriors, who own the rights to the No. 2 overall pick in Wednesday's NBA draft, have to decide whether or not Memphis center James Wiseman, who many believe has the potential to be a multi-time All-Star, is worth pivoting from that belief.
The San Francisco Chronicle's Connor Letourneau reported Tuesday, citing sources, that some in the Warriors' organization are reluctant to take a big man so high in the draft, but that Wiseman's recent workout in Miami might have softened that stance.

Wiseman is a 7-foot-1 center who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. He would fill an immediate need for the Warriors, who currently have Marquese Chriss and Kevon Looney in their center rotation.
While Wiseman's overall offensive game still needs some polish, he would serve as an immediate rim-running threat alongside Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins, and has the potential to grow into a franchise cornerstone.
Wiseman needs to work on stretching his range out to the 3-point line, and many have compared him to Chris Bosh and a young David Robinson. Even if that range never develops and his offensive game remains anchored close to the basket, Wiseman still should have a productive NBA career.

The Warriors will have a number of options when they go on the clock at No. 2 overall. Wiseman certainly appears to be the leader in the clubhouse, but the Warriors would love to find a way to move down the board a few picks and pick up a veteran player who can help them win now.
