After spending his whole 12-year career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Varejao was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday. Varejao is expected to clear waivers in the coming days with Portland.
In 31 games played this season, Varejao is averaging 2.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while only playing 10 minutes per game. All are career lows for the native of Brazil.
Varejao will be a free agent after the 2016 season.
Warriors backup center Festus Ezeli is expected to miss another four weeks while recovering from knee surgery.
Marc Stein of ESPN was first to report Golden State's interest in Varejao.
