Report: Potential Warriors target Gordon asked Magic for trade

The March 25 NBA trade deadline is three days away, and things appear to be heating up with Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon serving as one of the biggest available names on the market.

Gordon, 25, has been the subject of trade rumors for over a year and the young forward formally requested the Magic deal him in February, The Athletics' Jared Weiss and Sam Amick reported Monday.

The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor reported Sunday that the Warriors have discussed a Gordon deal with the Magic. Weiss notes the Magic long have been interested in acquiring Kelly Oubre Jr., and almost swung a deal with the Suns last year that would have sent Gordon to Phoenix and Oubre to Orlando.

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the Magic and Houston Rockets are involved in talks for Gordon centering around two first-round picks, with the Portland Trail Blazers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets also being interested in the young big.

While president of basketball operations Bob Myers has said the Warriors will be "aggressive" at the deadline, it's hard to see them dealing Oubre and probably some sort of draft compensation for Gordon. The explosive forward would give the Warriors much-needed frontcourt depth, but the loss of Oubre on the wing would be a devastating blow for a Warriors team that already is thin on the wing and lacks shooting around Steph Curry.

Gordon, who currently is averaging 14.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from the 3-point line, is a versatile defender, good passer and has improved his 3-point shot this season. He would give any team a jolt offensively and give them the ability to play small or big lineups.

As for Oubre, NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole reported Sunday that the Warriors are open to a discussion about trading the young wing but are not "shopping" him as has been previously reported.

An Oubre-Gordon trade could well happen before the deadline, but with the Warriors continuing to tread water around the .500 mark and Oubre playing well over the last six weeks, it feels like Golden State will be relatively calm at the deadline and Gordon will find a new home elsewhere.
