Could Mark Jackson become the next head coach of the Knicks?

Phil Jackson contacted Mark to gauge his interest in possibly taking over in New York, according to a report from Tommy Dee of SNY.

Derek Fisher was fired earlier this season in his second year with the Knicks. New York was 23-31 at the time of the firing and Jackson appointed Kurt Rambis as the team's interim head coach.

The source told Dee that the conversation between the Jacksons was a "generic initial discussion."

Mark Jackson is from Brooklyn, played collegiately at St. John's and was selected by the Knicks with the 18th pick in the 1987 NBA Draft.

Jackson was the Rookie of the Year in 1988, and was named to his only All-Star Game in 1989.

In addition to playing the first five seasons of his career in New York, Jackson started all 82 games for the Knicks in the 2001-02 season.

Jackson was the head coach of the Warriors for three seasons, and led Golden State to the playoffs twice.

He was fired in May 2014 and immediately returned to the broadcast booth.
