NBA rumors: Dec. 22 start date for next season expected to be agreed upon

We soon could finally know when the 2020-21 NBA season will begin.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe reported Wednesday that NBA team representatives are expected to approve a Dec. 22 start date for the upcoming NBA season, and a shortened 72-game season. The NBA's board of governors and players' association are holding separate meetings Thursday with expectations of agreeing to the start date.

The NBPA is holding team conference calls this week to discuss a salary escrow for players around 18 percent for the next two years, sources told Wojnarowski and Lowe.

As the Warriors watched the Los Angeles Lakers take their crown as the kings of the West, a quick start date for the next NBA season would be great news for Golden State. While LeBron James, Anthony Davis and many other teams played into September and October, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green were resting with revenge on their mind.

Curry only played five games this past season while battling injury and illness, Green was healthy but banged up and Thompson hasn't played a game since June 13, 2019, as he rehabbed his torn ACL. This group is healthy and ready to go. There's no doubt the Warriors are eager to get back on the floor.

The best ability is availability, and the core of the Warriors' dynasty, minus Kevin Durant of course, is back to health. They're also extremely motivated and have a chip on their shoulders. NBA games could start back up sooner than expected. The same goes for the Warriors' revenge tour.
