On Thursday morning, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith said the following on the show First Take:
"As it pertains to LeBron James and LA -- we know that the reports have been that he's making some phone calls. I got two phone calls last night -- after hours -- with folks telling me that LeBron James reached out to Kevin Durant via text about coming to Los Angeles.

"I don't know what Kevin Durant's response to him was. But I will tell you what I did hear, is that behind the scenes Kevin Durant was like, 'Why would I do that?'"
One thing that needs to be made clear -- Smith did not specifically say the Lakers (the Clippers also play in Los Angeles).

Durant has repeatedly said that he plans to re-sign with the Warriors this summer.
