Report: League sees Bouknight, Mitchell as top Warriors fits

There is no question that the Warriors will face a difficult decision with no easy answer when they go on the clock with the No. 7 pick in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft next Friday.

While the Warriors are expected to shop one or both of their lottery picks in an attempt to upgrade the roster around Steph Curry, there's a good chance a deal won't materialize and Golden State will have to select two players it believes can contribute to a return to title contention this season.

Two names have apparently risen to the top when it comes to the No. 7 pick, as league sources have told Sports Illustrated's Jeremy Woo that UConn's James Bouknight and Baylor's Davion Mitchell have been "pegged" as the two prospects who best fit the Warriors.

Woo also reported there has been an "increase in chatter" when it comes to Bouknight being a target for the Oklahoma City Thunder at No. 6 overall.

The Warriors reportedly just worked out and interviewed Bouknight, who would provide instant offense for the Warriors, giving them another microwave scorer off the bench alongside Jordan Poole.

As for Mitchell, the Warriors are thought to be "heavily interested" in the Baylor guard, according to Woo. Mitchell is thought to be among the best win-now options in the Warriors' range, especially if the shooting stroke he showed this past season isn't a mirage.

After missing the playoffs in each of the past two seasons, the Warriors need to nail their offseason in order to give Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green the best chance to vault back into title contention.

Bouknight and Mitchell both are intriguing options for the Warriors at No. 7, as Bouknight would fill the Warriors' need for shooting and Mitchell gives them a defensive guard to put next to Curry.

But with over a week until the draft starts, everything still is on the table.
