Report: Gasol narrows focus to Lakers, Raptors; Warriors out

He would have been a nearly perfect fit for the Warriors in free agency, but veteran center Marc Gasol has narrowed his focus to the Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors, Stadium's Shams Charania reports citing league sources.

Gasol averaged 7.5 points and 6.3 rebounds for the Raptors last season, and Toronto reportedly has pushed to bring back the 35-year-old big man.

Although the Warriors selected 7-foot-1 James Wiseman with the No. 2 pick in last week's NBA draft, Golden State still was looking to add a big man in free agency to shore up a position without much depth, NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole reported Wednesday.

Gasol is an elite passer for a big man and has championship pedigree, having helped lead the Raptors to a win over the Warriors in the 2019 NBA Finals.

The Lakers are looking to increase their offer for Gasol, and are looking into potentially trading current center Javale McGee to clear some cap space, the New York Times' Marc Stein reports citing league sources.

There are other options available in free agency, but Gasol certainly was the best one available. General manager Bob Myers will have to look elsewhere for help in the Warriors' frontcourt.
