Porter Jr. feels ‘great' after strong debut with Warriors

Health is the name of the game for the Warriors this season.

Snake-bitten by injuries in recent years, a healthy Warriors roster will play a big role in Golden State's quest to return to one of the Western Conference's elite teams.

One factor that is key for any championship-caliber team is a good bench. The Warriors are hoping that veteran forward Otto Porter Jr. can establish himself as a viable option on the wing to begin the season.

That is, if he's able to stay healthy.

The oft-injured 28-year-old has battled many injuries throughout his eight-year career. Signing with the Warriors in early August, Porter Jr. is working his way back from back and foot injuries that sidelined him for all but 28 games last season.

Looking to establish a key role with the Warriors, Porter Jr. feels great and is ready to compete for a key role on the team.

“I haven’t felt this great in a long time," Porter Jr. told the media after Monday's preseason game. "I feel really good, and I'm going to continue to do what I need to do to continue to feel this way. I’m going to get my work in with my trainers, the strength staff with Golden State, and just continue to stay on top of everything.”

“Still have some kinks (to work out)," he added. "Still getting my legs under me. Today’s only the first game, you can only continue to get better from there. This is just a starting point and every day I plan to learn and continue to get better while playing with these guys and continue to figure things out.”

Porter Jr. showed out in his preseason debut for Golden State on Monday night against the Portland Trail Blazers, scoring 19 points with four rebounds and one assist while shooting 55 percent from the field and 57 percent from three.

Another deep shooter to complement both Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, Porter Jr. (career 40 percent shooter from 3-point range) could give the Warriors plenty of exciting depth on offense
