NBA rumors: Carmelo Anthony's reps reaching out to other teams

If he had his way, Carmelo Anthony would suit up for the Houston Rockets on Thursday night against the Warriors. But Anthony and the Rockets aren't discussing a return, and his representatives reached out to other NBA teams Monday in an effort to find a possible landing spot, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported, citing league sources.

Anthony missed the last two games with an "illness," and Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said Sunday that the Rockets were not planning to release the 34-year-old. But Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni reportedly has moved on, and he plans to replace Anthony's minutes with rookie Gary Clark beginning Tuesday against the Denver Nuggets, according to Wojnarowski. Anthony will remain away from the Rockets.

In 10 games with the Rockets, Anthony averaged 13.4 points on 40.5 percent shooting -- 32.8 percent from beyond the arc. Houston also was much better with Anthony off the court than on it.

Anthony might not play against the Warriors on Thursday, but whether or not he has a new team by then is another question entirely. Wojnarowski wrote that "Anthony's best short-term course of action could be to exercise patience" as NBA teams are hesitant to make roster moves early in the season.
