Myers wishes for at least one fully healthy game for Warriors

If there's one thing that the Warriors and their fans want more than anything right now, it's a healthy team.

Having battled numerous key injuries, Golden State has been without all three of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green at different points this season.

When Thompson made his triumphant return in January, Green went down. When Green returned from a two-month absence in March, Curry went down. The Warriors have played exactly one game with all three of their stars on the court, not to mention they've also sustained injuries to key bench players as well.

Warriors general manager Bob Myers joined Bonta Hill, Dorell Wright and Festus Ezeli on Warriors Pregame Live, where he discussed the latest with Golden State and refused to make excuses for the Warriors' struggles without Curry.

"We can't use excuses," Myers said. "We have to play the players we have. We can reminisce or remise about Steph [Curry] being out, but he's not playing tonight. He hasn't played the whole road trip and he's probably not playing Saturday either. We have to look at the guys that are playing and ask them to play better, ask them to play together and hope that it comes together without a complete team. Teams can do it. We're not the only team that's banged up, some teams have had guys out."

When Curry went down against the Boston Celtics on March 16, Golden State received a huge blow at the worst possible time. After the Warriors' matchup with the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday at Chase Center, there will be just five games remaining in the regular season. Myers hopes at least one of them features a fully healthy squad.

"We are a team that leans on him quite a bit because he's so great," Myers added. "But for now, it's not a lot of time, it's six games. We'd love to have had more games healthy. I don't know that we'll get a game in. I hope he comes back and there's one game where he starts with Draymond and Klay. It's kind of hard to believe that we haven't gotten that. And I don't say that as an excuse, I think we need to play better. I think Steve [Kerr] and our players would say the same thing.

"I do wish that we could get one game healthy, I just think it's important. Not just for the fans or the audience, but for me personally. You build the team, you'd like to see it whole. James [Wiseman] is out, that's a blow that we wish we didn't have either. As a general manager, the hardest thing to stomach is health because you cannot evaluate your team."

Whether or not the Warriors are at full strength or limping into the playoffs, their health will determine just how close they come to reaching their goal of winning their fourth NBA championship in eight seasons.
