Mychal Thompson issues message regarding Klay's torn Achilles

An MRI on Thursday morning confirmed that Klay Thompson tore his right Achilles tendon and he is expected to miss the entire 2020-21 NBA season.

Klay's father, Mychal, took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon to issue a message.

There are no words to describe how devastating the injury is to the three-time NBA champion, who has not played in an NBA game since tearing his left ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals.

If we assume the 2021-22 season starts in late October, and if we assume Klay takes the floor for Opening Night, it will be well over 28 months between appearances for the five-time NBA All-Star.

"I've never met anybody that doesn't like Klay," Golden State president of basketball operations Bob Myers told the media Thursday afternoon. "An opposing coach -- who I really admire and respect -- called and said, 'I'm very sorry about Klay.' I said, 'I think there are two players in the NBA that everybody likes and respects without a doubt -- Klay Thompson and Derrick Rose.' 

"Those two guys are universally beloved. And how your peers feel about you in life says more than anything else. I really believe that. You can't put into words what he means to our team, our fans, our coaching staff, his teammates."

Klay -- who in July 2019 signed a five-year contract extension worth $190 million -- will turn 31 years old in February.
