Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins was given an opportunity before Wednesday's Game 5 against the Warriors to walk back his insinuation that Jordan Poole caused the bone bruise in Ja Morant's right knee.
Jenkins didn't take the opening. In fact, he stood by his postgame comments from Saturday that Poole's grab of Morant's knee on a scramble for a loose ball triggered the injury.
Those comments didn't sit well with Chris Mullin and Dorell Wright on "Warriors Live: Playoff Edition" on Wednesday.

"Posturing has gone on forever in the playoffs in the NBA," Mullin said to Bonta Hill, Monte Poole, Festus Ezeli and Wright. "The problem is it is usually generalized when you say there's a free-throw discrepancy or too physical on one of my players. But when you point out a specific play and you can go to video and that video is the exact opposite, then as you say Bonta, you lose credibility. And I think it has shown the desperation from Coach Jenkins and it has filtered through his team."
Jenkins spoke to reporters a little more than two hours before Game 5 was scheduled to tip off and he was asked if he regrets targeting Poole.
"That's just what our medical team and what Ja said," Jenkins told reporters. "That's when the injury was felt was on that play, so I'm just stating the facts of what our guys have told us in-house."

Wright would have preferred a different response from Jenkins.
"Accountability," Wright said to Hill, Mullin, Poole and Ezeli. "You've got to hold yourself accountable. You should have been apologizing in my opinion because you came on the podium and accused somebody about an injury that he didn't do. So that's my whole take on it. Get your facts right before you speak on anything."

The Grizzlies on Tuesday announced that Morant is doubtful for the rest of the playoffs, which could end up being just Wednesday's game at FedExForum if the Warriors can take care of business and close out the second-round series.
Maybe Jenkins' tune will change once the Grizzlies' season is over when there's no posturing left to do.
