Kuzma blames earthquake for airballed free throw vs. Warriors

Kyle Kuzma had an interesting explanation for airballing a free throw in the first half against the Warriors at Chase Center on Monday night.

The young Los Angeles Lakers wing told reporters after his team's 128-97 win over the Warriors that an earthquake caused his freebie to sail wide left.

“San Francisco had a 3.5 magnitude earthquake," Kuzma said according to The Athletic's Jovan Buha. "S--t started rumbling. I don’t know. I got scared, and it went far off to the left.”

While it's a funny excuse from Kuzma, there were no earthquakes in the Bay Area during the Warriors-Lakers game, according to the United State Geological Service (USGS) and the SF Quake Bot Twitter feed.

Kuzma took the free throw attempt after Warriors rookie James Wiseman was assessed a technical foul for elbowing Lakers forward Montrezl Harrell in the nose in the second quarter.

Kuzma, a 72.8 percent career free throw shooter, didn't even come close to making the shot and heard from the Warriors bench, including Draymond Green.

Kuzma and the Lakers rattled the Warriors, though, sending Golden State crashing back down to earth after their big win over the Utah Jazz on Sunday.
