KOC identifies ‘make-or-break' stat for Oubre with Warriors

In order for the Warriors to make some serious noise in the Western Conference this year, they need Kelly Oubre to have a big season.

The soon-to-be 25-year-old was fantastic with the Phoenix Suns in 2019-20, averaging career highs in points (18.7), rebounds (6.4), assists (1.5), steals (1.3), field goal percentage (45.2) and 3-point percentage (35.2).

Can he be even better this season in a Golden State uniform?

"I've never been a big Kelly Oubre fan, but he's won me over more and more and more over the years," The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor told NBC Sports Bay Area's Grant Liffmann on the "Dubs Talk" podcast. "The streakiness is still there, but as he has gotten better -- as he has matured -- we have seen him turn into a guy that can contribute to winning."

Warriors vs. T-wolves outcome will be determined by teams' stars

ESPN outlines ‘appealing' LaVine trade package for Warriors

"Last year, shooting 35 percent from 3, you'd like to see that number be a bit higher," he said. "With Golden State, that's the make-or-break number. Does he dip down, or does he with more open-shot opportunities in a new system raise that number up more?

"The defense has gotten better. But the shooting -- I'm not sure how real the 35 percent is from 3 last year. If I'm the Warriors, that's what I need to see."

Oubre -- the No. 15 overall pick in the 2015 draft -- is eager to prove that not only was last year not a fluke, but that he can bring that 3-point percentage up significantly.

How high exactly?

"Allow me to show you, sir," he said last week during a conference call with reporters. "Can't really predict the future. (Just) allow me to show you and everybody else."
